Dear Parents & Carers,
Good morning, I hope this letter finds you all well and that you have all had a good week.
With only two weeks left of the first half term in school, I wanted to express how well our students have done since returning from summer. The attitude to school life and all that this brings has been outstanding from our students and although we have encountered one or two incidents in school that have needed careful consideration, it has genuinely been a pleasure to be in school watching our students progress and develop.
Restrictive Physical Interventions (RPI)
As of this year, OFG have implemented a standard letter to inform parents whenever an RPI has occurred in school with their child. As a school, our practice has always been to inform parents by telephone regarding the incident, and this will not change. However, you will now also receive the self-generated letter as this falls in line with the new Department for Education guidance which came into effect from September 2026. The letter states the reason for intervention, what technique was used and the duration, however, all this information will have been discussed during the phone call.
Welcome to our new Clinical Lead
Last week our new Clinical Lead, Sally Scargill started with us here at school and is quickly finding her feet. Sally has vast experience in education having taught for over 23 years including 10 years as a school SENCO at Ralph Thoresby school in Leeds. Since then, Sally has re-trained as a psychotherapist, working across Leeds and the surrounding areas. We would like to extend a warm welcome to Sally in her new role and I am sure that parents and carers will get the chance to meet Sally over the coming weeks either during annual reviews or when visiting school.
October Half Term Activities
We recognise that school holidays can be a tricky time for our students and their families, as well as expensive, especially for a family. As is always the case, we have looked across our local regions for any free activities you can get involved with over half term. You will find all the activities available during the half term holidays for Leeds and West Yorkshire as well as more activities further afield in North Yorkshire, East Yorkshire and the coastal regions.
As always, should you wish to discuss any of the information in this letter, or would like to raise anything then please do not hesitate to get in touch at admin@armleygrangeschool.co.uk
I hope you have a lovely weekend,
Best wishes,
James
