Dear Parents and Carers,
Good morning, I hope this letter finds you well?
After some recent incidents where students have found themselves interacting negatively with other students whilst online, we felt it timely to remind all parents and carers of the school’s policy on abusive behaviour towards other students whilst online.
The stance from any school in these incidents is that we would act upon anything happening whilst inside of school, however, where group chats are being used outside of school then the school will support the child and the family in taking the next steps. In instances where aggressive abuse is sent either by phone or online, then our advice would always be to contact the police immediately.
Where inappropriate photos are sent, then a screen shot should be taken of these, but these images should not be then shared with anyone else as this is deemed as passing on inappropriate images. You should keep the images saved on the phone they have been sent to.
For any such instances, the school will work within the policies set out and in partnership with the local safeguarding teams, the police and the local authorities to ensure we follow correct procedures. The links below will take you to parental guidance from the NSPCC on how to support your child. Inappropriate or explicit content | NSPCC Helping Children Deal with Bullying & Cyberbullying | NSPCC
Wednesday 17th December – Parents’ Evening
You will receive your child’s autumn term report on Friday 12th December via email, and this will be followed with a parents’ evening on Wednesday 17th December where you will be able to ask any questions relating to your child’s progress in school.
Your child’s teacher will be in touch next week to assign you a time for your online parents evening meeting. For our older students, there will be a hybrid offer of attending the meeting online or on site. All parents’ evening slots will commence from 3.30 and finish at 5pm.
Friday 19th December – Christmas Fair
Parents will be invited in from 10.30 on this day where you will be able to look around the school and see what Christmas gifts the students have made for you to purchase (please bring cash!). The school will close that day at 12 pm and you will either be free to take your child home at this time if you attend the event or arrange for the taxis to come early to pick up. We will also let transport teams know of the earlier finish time.
As is always the case in school, we are a little tight for room, therefore we will limit the Christmas Fair to 2 adults per child. Should you wish to attend the event, then please confirm by the 12th of December to jade.palmer@armleygrangeschool.co.uk with the names of the people attending. Should you wish more people to attend, such as grandparents etc, then please also make this clear in your communication.
New Maths & Science Lead
I am pleased to announce that we appointed a new Maths and Science lead in school last week. The new teacher has worked across various SEND schools in the local area, including the Lighthouse school in Leeds. We look forward top welcoming her to the Armley Grange Team in the new year.
As always, should there be anything that you need to speak to someone at school about, whether that be advice or additional support, please feel free to get in touch and we would be happy to help.
Best regards,
James Shutt
